Advancing Eye Care in Eastern Nepal: New Specialized Services Started at Mechi Eye Hospital

  • April 21, 2026

Mechi Eye Hospital has expanded its specialized eye care services with the introduction of advanced treatment and screening facilities aimed at preventing avoidable blindness and improving patient outcomes in Eastern Nepal.

The hospital has recently started SLET (Simple Limbal Epithelial Transplantation) service for patients suffering from severe ocular surface damage caused by chemical injury, trauma, or limbal stem cell deficiency, helping restore the eye surface and improve vision.

To strengthen glaucoma management, Ab Interno Deep Sclerectomy – High-Frequency Deep Sclerotomy (HFDS), a modern minimally invasive glaucoma surgery, has also been started. This advanced procedure helps reduce eye pressure safely with faster recovery and better patient comfort.

In addition, ROP Screening Service has been launched using the advanced Phoenix ICON GO – Widefield Retinal Imaging System, enabling early detection of Retinopathy of Prematurity in premature babies and helping prevent childhood blindness through timely intervention.

With these newly started services, Mechi Eye Hospital continues its commitment to bringing modern, accessible, and high-quality eye care closer to the community.
