Cataract and glaucoma are the leading causes of blindness worldwide. The prevalence of both diseases is increasing with aging population. Techniques for cataract surgery have undergone significant refinements with excellent visual outcomes enjoyed by our patients. The goal of glaucoma surgery is to lower intraocular pressure to prevent or slow down the progression of optic nerve damage and associated visual field loss.
We performed trabeculectomy surgery in 30 patients which was a decline by 18.92% compared to last year as most of the glaucoma surgeries were combined with cataract surgery for the maximum benefit to the patient. Combined glaucoma surgery were performed in 229 patients i.e. Combined with SICS & combined with Phaco were 165 cases & 64 cases respectively. Last year, combined Glaucoma with SICS and combined glaucoma with phaco were 126 cases & 10 cases only i.e. increment of 30.95% & 540% respectively in 2017.
