Message from Medical Director

Dear Stakeholders, Team Members, Readers, and Community,

It is with great pride that I present our achievements in 2022 through our annual report. Our annual surgical performance has reached an all-time high, surpassing previous records. A significant portion of our reserve surplus has been dedicated to infrastructure development, primarily in building and technology.

As we celebrate our 26th anniversary, we have introduced additional provisions and revised existing ones in our reward system to enhance long-term staff retention. Despite external challenges such as a shortage of efficient and experienced high-volume surgeons, rising medical consumable costs, growing service demand, and high patient expectations, our collective team effort has been instrumental.

A noteworthy accomplishment is the establishment of eye care services in Damak, housed in a newly furnished building with enhanced facilities. We extend our gratitude to the Mayor of Damak Municipality and the Chairman of Damak Municipality Ward No. 6 for their effective coordination and vital support. Our partnerships with local municipalities and NGOs have played a crucial role in promoting equitable, affordable, accessible, inclusive, and quality eye care services, contributing to the fulfillment of sustainable development goals.

Looking ahead, we are optimistic that our collaborative efforts and partnerships will diversify ophthalmic services, especially in orthoptics, cornea, and refractive surgery. Our focus on research, continuous support for ongoing surgical training, and the implementation of training programs for MD Ophthalmology, B. Optometry, and fellowships remain unwavering.

I express my gratitude to the Chairman and all distinguished members of Mechi Eye Hospital (Sangh), Eye Care Foundation, the Netherlands, Nepal Netra Jyoti Sangh, Social Welfare Council, Ministry of Health & Population, and all collaborating partners at local, national, and international levels for their tremendous support in our mission to reduce avoidable blindness in this region.

Finally, sincere thanks to all team members for their unwavering support in delivering community-based eye care services with limited resources. Your inspiration, commitment, integrity, and passion for our profession are invaluable in realizing our goals for the service of humanity with charitable purpose.

Best Regards,

 Dr. Purushottam Joshi, MD
